Garlic Before Pokrov

Planning the garlic bed: three varieties, forty cloves, and a promise to mulch properly this time.

Garlic goes in the ground in mid-October here, so this week is for preparing the bed: weeding, a barrow of compost, and splitting the bulbs saved from this summer's harvest.

Three varieties this year, about forty cloves. Last winter I mulched too thinly and lost a row to heaving frost. This time, a thick blanket of straw. It is written here so that I can't pretend I didn't know.
